Donato Nappo ha realizzato negli anni Ricerca di stile e Design di carrozzeria ed accessori per auto, camion, autobus, furgoni, camper, motorhome, veicoli fuoristrada, macchine movimento terra, trattori e Semoventi agricoli ed industriali, Design d' interni di autoveicoli passeggeri, commerciali e industriali. La sua ricerca indaga i temi degli spazi minimi sia nei veicoli che negli interni domestici. Ha progettato nel settore automotive per gruppo Pirelli, gruppo Fiat , PiMakina Group e gruppo Thule-Konig. Ha collaborato con la rivista Tuttotrasporti dal 1992 al 2006. Attualmente lavora per gruppo SEA Camper (Elnagh,Mobilvetta,Mclouis.....)

Parallelamente all'attività di designer professionista è attivo nella ricerca, sperimentazione e sviluppo di progetti che esplorano futuri scenari, partecipando ad eventi, manifestazioni e concorsi sul design di carattere internazionale.

TRUCK CONCEPT 1994/2010

"Modulo 3 Ecolution": A model sustainable heavy truck based on new and clean technologies -
My research essentially deals with the theme of the "travelling living and working".
I thought to a working category that is always on the road: the truckers. So I studied for an idea to get more comfortable their travel. I concentrated myself to the interior of truck cabins for very long interstate truck transport services. His material aims at multiple objectives, of which the fundamental one is redefining the interior architecture of the cabin, addressing the quality of the working environment and, more generally, the quality of life on board. To respect environment "Modulo 3" is equipped with propulsion ibrid system of diesel engine and fuel cell. For interior cab the energy of devices is made by the solar panels put on the roof of cab.

Nel 1996 nasce "Modulo3 concept" veicolo per il trasporto merci su lunghe distanze, oggetto della tesi di laurea di Donato Nappo, dal titolo "Nuova concezione degli interni della cabina di un autocarro", discussa al Politecnico di Milano, facoltà di Architettura, relatore Prof. Arturo Dell'Acqua Bellavitis. Modulo 3 concept: "A new interior architecture concept of Truck cab" 1996

Donato Nappo's research essentially deals with the more current than ever theme of the interior of truck cabins. His material aims at multiple objectives, of which the fundamental one is redefining the interior architecture of the cabin, addressing the quality of the working environment and, more generally, the quality of life on board. The outcome of this methodological approach was the definition of modulo 3, a high-level driver's cab that offers a flat-floored all-round-vision cabin characterised by a protected interior area and a fully-featured bathroom. The vehicle's name was a deliberate choice, in that it is made from three basic structural modules. The first is the overall chassis, engine and mechanical group. The second, the two separate cabin support-a pair of towers that enclose, respectively, the passenger cell and the bathroom. The third module is the cabin itself, finished to ergonomic criteria with the most modern and advanced comforts, including variable-intensity interior lights, couchette with real-bed dimentions, fridge and microwave oven".

Nel 2004 è la volta di "Modulo 03 evolution" l'evoluzione del concetto sviluppato da Donato Nappo con il team di Designmotion C.A. ed in collaborazione con Erredue Prototipi, che ha seguito tutte le fasi costruttive del prototipo. Il progetto "Modulo3 concept" è stato selezionato dalla Biennale internazionale del design di Saint-Etienne (Francia) per l'originalità del design ed è stato esposto alla manifestazione francese.

"Modulo 3 evolution" is a concept of safe heavy truck. The particular shape of the cab-over with the back rear place of drive and the windshield tilted towards the inside let to the driver the greater possibility of survival in case of frontal impact against a heavy vehicle, in how much has a greater given vital space from the structural conformation of the same one. In order to reduce the consequences in case of incidents of the heavy vehicle with automobiles or pedestrians it is chosen to equip the vehicle of lateral fairings both of the tractor and the trailer, therefore not only for function of aerodynamic type, but above all in order to prevent that in the impact the joint of the car or pedestrian under truck happens.

Lo sviluppo del progetto è avvenuto con tecnologie digitali e software di Progettazione CAD. I modelli sono stati realizzati in Prototipazione Rapida.

"Modulo 03 evolution" è stato realizzato combinando piu' tecnologie. Il corpo ed il cassone posteriore sono stati fresati, le ruote sono in nylon nero, per rendere la matericità della gomma, tutte le parti trasparenti ed i cerchioni sono stati realizzati in stereolitografia e successivamente le prime sono state verniciate con colori trasparenti, mentre i secondi sono stati cromati... A NEW BUS FOR LONDON

My concept of Double Decker is to create a tie between past and future. So I have studied an external shape remembering the classic routemaster but more contemporary. The front of the vehicle is rounded to reduce the power of collision with pedestrian. I have revolutionized the interior space because I have put the driver's cab on the upper floor. The driver's cab on the upper floor offers a better visibility and more comfort to drive, and it is characterised by a protected interior area finished to ergonomic criteria with the most modern and advanced comforts, with airconditioned system. Passenger capacity is high thanks to the new layout. On the lower decker there are 30 seats, a weelchair space, a luggage space, internal staircase and allow for a second crew member. On the upper decker there are 55 seats and the driver cab. The door opening is 1200 mm wide to promote smooth passenger circulation and easy access for prams and wheelchairs.The integral all-aluminium body is built of extruded aluminium profiles and also the panels.

Environment: L'utilizzo di motori alimentati con sorgenti alternative non inquinanti soprattutto per i centri urbani è una realtà da affrontare con idee innovative. Mobilità urbana e trasporto merci sono solo alcune modalità di trasporto con cui l'uomo del futuro dovrà convivere.Nuove tendenze emergono: il rispetto ambientale, il nomadismo, e la velocità dei trasporti suggeriscono la ricerca di nuove tipologie di veicoli che ci consentano di abitare e lavorare viaggiando. Per vivere gli spazi sfruttandone le caratteristiche fisiche ed ambientali, il grado di comfort e sicurezza.

UITP 2005 Rome_re?bus: bus concept for european cities. 5-9 Giugno 2005: Donato Nappo tra i finalisti del concorso "RE?BUS" è stato invitato al" 56th Congresso Mondiale UITP (Union International des Transport Public)" che si tiene ogni due anni.

The project of the new bus is focused on the problem: "Vehicle adaptability and modularity".

The structure of the bus is self-supporting chassis composed by a variable number of moduls, in function of the length of the bus and the requirement of urban services. The engine and the mechanical group are contained in a mini-trailer connetted to the bus. This solution is flexible for the use of different type of propulsion, and it is able to easy maintenances services. So, the structure and interior layout of the bus is free from the engine and it can offer more space for passengers. The interior design is confortable, for the driver and for passengers, and it is made of recicled and natural materials, like wood and aluminium. "European Bus of the Future"

Architetture mobili

Con il termine "Architetture mobili", si intende lo studio e la realizzazione di strutture mobili e modulari, vere e proprie architetture flessibili temporanee o semi-permanenti in grado di adattarsi a differenti esigenze funzionali. Le architetture mobili diventano la soluzione d'avanguardia per la concezione di nuove realtà viaggianti: bar, caffetterie, librerie, internet points,veicoli espositivi o abitazioni nomadi, così da favorire le mutate esigenze funzionali, sociali ed ambientali che la nostra società ormai richiede.
